The South Indian Association (Regd.) was born on 1/10/1948 on the auspicious day of Vijayadasami. The basic objective of the association was to impart education to the Tamil speaking populace of Dombivli and form an umbrella association to bring the South Indian population together to maintain their cultural identity. The Tamil medium school when started had six students mostly the children of the founders of the institution. This year the institution has entered the "Diamond Jubilee" year.

To keep pace with the changing need of the time, this Primary School progressively grew up to IV Standard (with Tamil Medium) and thereafter with English Medium from V to VIII Standards and retained such an identity.

Growth of Mumbai also resulted in growth of extended suburbs like Dombivli and Kalyan. The population explosion in Dombilvi also necessitated in the need for educational infrastructure. In order to cater to the Educational needs of all sections of the Society at large. During the year 1964, the SIA SECONDARY SCHOOL was started with English as the medium of instruction; The Institution which was started to cater to predominantly cater to the Tamil populace was converted to English medium school to cater to the society at large. The High school teaches several languages like English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Sanskrit. The students can learn these languages as per the guidelines laid down by the education department in the state of Maharashtra. The medium of instruction from I to IV Std. in the Primary School was also changed from Tamil to English from the year 1973 with a view to ensure continuity and sequence in the medium of instruction and to encompass all sections of Dombivlikars.

While the Association's inscribed motto is "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" the subscribed motto is "UNITY IS STRENGTH".Imparting Education is a very noble cause. For achievements of this noble objective, let us be prepared to pay the costs whatever they are in suffering and hardships, as long as may be necessary. The Association recognizes that the developments achieved so far are due to the co-operation and assistance by all concerned in general and the DOMBIVLI CITIZENS in particular.
