About

K.J. Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), the second engineering college established by the Somaiya Trust in 2001, is located at the Ayurvihar campus in Sion. It initiated its first batch with 180 undergraduate students across three branches in engineering: Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Information Technology. The Electronics Department was founded in 2004, and since then, the institute has strived to provide the necessary dynamism to all its stakeholders in light of the expanding knowledge and changing socio-economic requirements of modern society.

KJSIT is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Government of Maharashtra, with a permanent affiliation to the University of Mumbai (UOM). It received an “A” Grade and a CGPA of 3.21 during its first cycle accreditation for a duration of five years by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Additionally, its three programs—Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and Electronics Engineering—are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. KJSIT has been honored with the “Best College Award” by the University of Mumbai in the urban region and has also received the “Best Engineering College Award” from the CSI local chapter and the ISTE Maharashtra and Goa Section.

Furthermore, KJSIT introduced a Post Graduate engineering program in Artificial Intelligence starting in the academic year 2019-20. In the academic year 2020-21, the institute also began offering an undergraduate engineering program in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, with an intake capacity of 60 seats, leading to a total intake increase to 360. KJSIT is continuously identifying and developing the latest and nascent technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Blockchain Technology to enhance student learning and growth.

The University Grants Commission has conferred Autonomous Status to K.J. Somaiya Institute of Technology for a period of ten years, from the academic year 2021-22 to 2030-31, as per the provisions of Clause 3.13 and Clause 6.4 (i) of UGC Regulations dated 12.02.2018, whereby degrees will be awarded by the University of Mumbai.

KJSIT - Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) recognized with top ratings by the Ministry of Education's (MoEs) Innovation Cell in Annual Performance Ratings for 5 consecutive years since its establishment.

With an ideology that the root of innovation is ‘Interest’, the curriculum offers a wide range of elective courses - grouped into core and inter-disciplinary domains. At par with international engineering education, the students can choose to study courses concerning areas of their interests.

KJSITs syllabus under the autonomy comprises state-of-the-art courses and laboratory sessions on emerging areas of technology, fostering students for developing innovative solutions to real-world issues of the society and/or industry through the acquired knowledge.

The curriculum introduces Skill-Based Learning (SBL), Activity-Based Learning (ABL), and Technology-Based Learning (TBL) as eXposure (SAT) courses - that assure X factor in all the students of the institute. The SAT courses shall be practiced across the first three years of engineering, focusing on graduate attributes like work ethics, responsibilities towards society, problem-solving ability, communication skills, motivation for life-long learning, leadership and teamwork, etc. that may not be copiously imbibed through regular engineering courses. The proficiencies acquired herein shall open huge employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the students.

Students of the institute are provided exposure to the work culture and trends in industries through live / collaborative projects / product developments concerning healthcare, agriculture, societal / industrial need-based problems, etc. as well as pursue internships making them industry-ready engineers. The blend of all these learning components in the curriculum shall strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem in the institute for best benefits of the students.

For placements, our Institute is approached by global business houses like TCS, Accenture, Delloite, Cognizant, Larsen & Toubro InfoTech, Reliance Jio etc. with a steady record of recruitments of our students. While offering best innovative educational practices, we also have experienced faculty and state of the art infrastructural amenities and laboratories. In the global scenario, the students graduating from this Institute are truly empowered with recent technical trends so as to become world leaders and contribute significantly for the philanthropic cause of the society.
