About

The National Skill Training Institute, a pioneering unit of the Directorate General of Training under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, traces its origins back to 1957 as the 'Central Training Institute for Instructors' at Aundh, Pune. In 1963, the Institute relocated to its current premises in Mumbai and was inaugurated by the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, on March 20, 1963. Initially, the Institute focused solely on Craft Instructors Training Programmes.

Having celebrated 60 years of excellence in skill building, the Institute has conducted both short-term and long-term courses. Numerous industrial establishments, institutions, and organizations have leveraged the technical know-how and expertise of the Institute to enhance their production quality. They continue to send their workforce for retraining and skill gap training. The faculty comprises experts with extensive experience and training in the latest technologies, both within India and abroad.

The training programmes are meticulously designed by the Institute’s officers in collaboration with industry experts and individuals. These programmes address the industrial needs of the mechanical, electrical, electronics, and chemical sectors. They are structured to ensure that all trainees acquire the necessary skills for wage and self-employment. The Institute continuously supports the training needs of micro, small, medium, and large enterprises in both Government and private sectors. Thus, the Institute invites organizations to explore its training calendar and consider utilizing its facilities and services for further knowledge and skill enhancement, in alignment with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Make in India” to popularize Indian products in global markets.
