What is NID Exam?
India's premier and first design institute in the country, National Institute of Design (NID), has been declared as 'Institution of National Importance' by the Act of Parliament. The institute is internationally acclaimed as one amongst the multi-disciplinary institutes in the field of design education and research. The institute had its main campus in Ahmedabad, R&D campus in Bengaluru and Post Graduate campus in Gandhinagar.
NID offer admissions to courses such as Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) and Master of Design (M.Des) programmes. The candidates will be shortlisted based on the national-level entrance examination which will be conducted in two stages.
Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims
Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains
Candidates who qualify in the DAT Prelims are only eligible to appear for the DAT Mains examination. The DAT Prelims paper comprises of a mix of objective and subjective questions. Interested candidates can also pursue Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) course at NID Kurukshetra and NID Vijayawada campuses. The total number of seats for GDPD course is 60 each for NID Vijayawada and Kurukshetra campus. The specialisations are offered in the following areas:
1. Industrial Design
2. Communication Design
3. Textile & Apparel Design
Eligibility Criteria
For B.Des and GDPD: Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2018–19 in any stream (science, arts, commerce, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent. The upper age limit for candidates belonging to the general category is 20 years. The age relaxation is provided to candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PWD/ OBC-NCL. NID Results
Candidates have to appear for all the tests such as DAT Prelims and DAT Mains in order to be considered for the merit list. The NID results will be declared only on the official website.
