What is CTET Exam?

Central Teacher Eligibility Test is one of the entrance exams which is conducted by the Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) for getting teaching jobs in government schools from Class I to Class VIII.

TET was held for the first time in 2011 which was introduced by the Government of India in order to improve standards in teaching. For teachers already working, they are supposed to clear this entrance exam in two years time.

In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) vide Notification dated August 23, 2010, and July 29, 2011, laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII.

The CBSE is responsible for releasing the CTET notification. CTET is going to be conducted twice a year for teaching positions from class 1 to 8 in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalaya, Central Tibetan Schools and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya besides schools under the administrative control of the Union Territories.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi.

TET is going to be conducted by both Central Govt. and State Govt. in India. Most of the states conduct their own TET. The main aim of the test is conducted in order to fulfil and achieve the goals of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.

Supreme Court On CTET Reservation

In 2019, Rajneesh Kumar Pandey along with others filed a petition regarding 10% quota for the economically weaker section in CTET examination. The petitioners claim that the CTET 2019 notification issued by CBSE violates the rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

The bench of Judges Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna made it clear that the reservation of any class will be applicable at the time of admissions. The reservation cannot be provided for the qualifying examinations. The reservation will come into effect during admission.

The reservation is not provided for SC and ST either. The 103rd Constitution Amendment was passed by Parliament that provides 10% reservation to the general category belonging to the economically weaker section of the society in addition to the existing reservation for the benefit of other reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC and PH.

Aspirants have to meet the eligibility requirements set by the CBSE to apply online. The minimum age to appear for CTET examination is 18 years. The educational qualification is given below.

Qualifications for Classes I-V: Primary Stage (Paper-I)

TCandidates should have Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education
(or) 
Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).

Qualifications for Classes VI-VIII: Elementary Stage (Paper-II)

Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

CTET Application Form

Candidates need to apply online for the CTET examination. Candidates are advised to get ready with the soft copies of the photograph and signature to apply online. The CTET application process includes filling the application form, uploading of necessary documents, application fee payment, and printing the confirmation page. Step 2: Click on the ''Fill Online Application Form for CTET.'' 

Step 3: If you are a new candidate, start with the online registration. 

Step 4: Fill the online application form.

Step 5: Upload scanned photograph and signature.

Step 6: Pay the prescribed application fee.

Step 7: Submit the details. 

Step 8: The confirmation page will be displayed.

CTET Exam Pattern

CThis Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) consists of two papers. Candidates who choose the Paper-I will teach the Classes I to V whereas Paper-II for Classes VI to VIII. Aspirants can also apply for both the papers. The duration of each paper is two hours and thirty minutes. The exam consists of 150 objective-type questions.

CTET Admit Card 2019

The admit card is the most important document required to take the CTET examination. The CBSE will release the CTET admit card at least 15 days prior to the examination. The registered candidates are advised to visit the official website regularly to download CTET admit card.

Candidates need to enter their login credentials such as registration number or application number to download the CTET admit card. After download CTET admit card, candidates should check whether the details are correctly printed or not. In case of any discrepancy, candidates should immediately contact the CTET Unit for necessary corrections.

One should also read all the instructions printed on the CTET admit card. The most important point is candidates should report at the examination centre at least 90 minutes before the commencement of the examination. Candidates should also carry a photo identity card issued by the central or state government along with CTET admit card to the examination centre for verification.

CTET July 2019 Exam Analysis

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducted the 11th edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) at more than 2100 centres across the country on Jul 7, 2019. Around 17 lakh candidates will be appeared for CTET 2019, which is one of the biggest teaching examinations in the country. According to the responses from the test takers, the difficulty level of the exam was moderate.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducted the 11th edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) at more than 2100 centres across the country on Jul 7, 2019. Around 17 lakh candidates will be appeared for CTET 2019, which is one of the biggest teaching examinations in the country. According to the responses from the test takers, the difficulty level of the exam was moderate.

The CTET 2019 exam level overall was between moderate and easy as compared to the previous year's paper which was easy. Many questions were asked from the learning and pedagogy topics from the child development section. The questions were moderate in science and mathematics. However, a number of questions came from arithmetic and biology.

Many test takers felt that the questions were easy to moderate in the social studies and a number of questions were asked from political science and geography. The passages in the English language section were lengthy. However, the Hindi language was easy compared to the previous year.

CTET Paper 2 Difficulty Level & Good Attempt

CTET 2019 Exam Cut-off

For General category, candidates should obtain a minimum 60 per cent marks and are required to attain 90 marks out of 150. For OBC/SC/ST reserved candidates, 55 per cent of marks and 82 marks out of 150 were required. This is an expected cut-off.

CTET July Result 2019

Candidates who have appeared for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) examination on July 7, 2019, can check their result on the official website of CBSE. Candidates who qualify in the CTET written examination will be allowed to take up teaching profession across schools recognised by the government.

Around 17 lakh candidates appeared for the CTET examination in two shifts across 92 cities. The pass percentage of CTET 2019 is only 17%. Candidates should score a minimum of 60 percent to qualify in the CTET exam. However, 50 percent is the qualifying requirement for reserved categories.
